meterwatch is an approved NSW Non-Urban Water Metering Local Intelligence Device

Background

The NSW Government is rolling out a new metering framework to measure and meter non-urban water take in NSW, under the NSW Government’s Water Reform Action Plan. The goal is to improve the standard and coverage of non-urban water meters in NSW.

Who is affected?

Anyone taking water from regulated rivers, unregulated rivers and groundwater systems under a licence, where the take can be measured with a meter.

When?

The rollout of the no-urban water metering framework started in 2020, and is broken down into 4 stages

  • Stage 1 surface pumps 500 mm+ 1 December 2020
  • Stage 2 Northern inland 1 December 2021 - remaining water sources
  • Stage 3 Southern inland 1 December 2022 - remaining water sources
  • Stage 4 Coastal area 1 December 2023 - remaining water sources

How does meterwatch fit in?

Under NSW’s metering rules, all surface and groundwater water take works captured by the rules need to be fitted with an accurate meter and an approved telemetry-capable Local Intelligence Device (LID) such as meterwatch.

The meterwatch data logger is attached to an approved meter at the water take point by a Duly Qualified Person. It records meter water usage and sends data and any alarms to the government cloud-based data acquisition service.

Why meterwatch?

Halytech is a Sydney based company that has been designing and manufacturing data loggers locally for the water industry for more than 20 years. The meterwatch data logger and telemetry device has been developed specifically for the NSW Non-Urban Water Metering Framework. It is a premium product designed for use in harsh environments. It comes with a 7-year warranty, including the battery.

Meterwatch is economical, reliable, easy to install and set up. It is waterproof and communicates on the latest LTE Cat M1 mobile network. This compact self-contained solution is ideal for installation in remote areas with challenging environmental conditions and poor mobile coverage.
Halytech offers a range of external antennas and mounting options to simplify the installation.
